Chris Martin — Coldplay’s charitable front man with a heart of gold

Everyone knows his voice, but this is what he doesn’t talk about much…

Everybody knows him as the face of Coldplay, but there’s another side to Chris Martin

Chris Martin is a talented artist and a goofy dude. With his cheery, positive outlook on life he brightens the lives of many, but it’s not just his attitude that improves lives. He’s involved in many philanthropic humanitarian initiatives.

As a boy Chris’s mother encouraged him to donate 10% of his pocket money to charity

For Oxfam, Chris travelled to Ghana and Haiti to meet farmers and see the effects of unfair trade practices.Oxfam trip to Ghana.

“We believe in Coldplay that as long as we’re putting our heart and soul into our music, we’re allowed to speak up and be heard by the western media about things we care about.”

And he almost always has a variation of “Make Trade Fair” or an equal sign on his hands when performing. Spreading love wherever he goes, Chris hands out Love Buttons, supporting the movement that wants to bring people together, with the profit of the buttons going to charity.

In 2017, Coldplay became patrons of the refugee search-and-rescue organisation MOAS (Migrant Offshore Aid Station). They’re raising awareness and funds for the organisation, and all proceeds of their new song A L I E N S go to MOAS. 

The band has performed at countless charity concerts, including:

• The Secret Policeman’s Ball

Chris’ generosity is rooted deep in his DNA: His mother encouraged him to donate 10% of his pocket money to charity. This 10% tradition is upheld by him and his fellow Coldplay members, since the very beginning. 

In 2015, Chris became the director of the Global Citizen Festival — a movement that enables everyone to take action… to help solve extreme global poverty by 2030.

He’s also involved in the INNOCENCE PROJECT supporting the fight against wrongful convictions. 

Chris wants to make a difference every way he can,by inspiring people through music, philanthropic endeavours, and pure wisdom.
