Their mission: to create access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.

“Mobilize me and I’ll change my world,”

Since 2005, World Bicycle Relief has provided over 225,000 specially designed, locally assembled, rugged bicycles to disaster victims, healthcare workers, students and entrepreneurs in developing countries around the globe. They have also trained over 1,000 field mechanics.

Bicycles are a catalyst to possibilities

Compared to walking, bicycles represent an enormous leap in productivity and access to healthcare, education and economic opportunities. The simple, sustainable nature of bicycles empowers individuals, their families and their communities.

World Bicycle Relief mobilizes people through The Power of Bicycles. The non-profit say they are committed to helping people conquer the challenge of distance, achieve independence and thrive.

For many people in rural regions of developing countries, poverty is a daily reality. In areas where walking is the only mode of transport, a Buffalo Bicycle offers the real and immediate benefit of reliable access to essential goods and services. Powered by the remarkable human spirit, bicycles are a catalyst to possibilities.

Buffalo Bicycles: built for big loads on tough roads in Africa

Buffalo Bicycles is a wholly owned, for-profit subsidiary of World Bicycle Relief. Profits from the sale of the bikes help fund World Bicycle Relief’s philanthropic programs and build a sustainable bicycle infrastructure in Africa.

Buffalo Bicycles are arguably the strongest bikes in Africa. They are built with heavy-gauge steel, reinforced spokes and a rack ready to carry 100kg+ (220lb) loads.

Buffalo connects the end-user directly with bicycle suppliers; the result is a robust bike engineered specifically for rural African terrain and load requirements. The company say their Africa-based product development team oversees a fleet of riders who test current and potential components under the most punishing field conditions.

The bikes are designed, tested and assembled in Africa, providing jobs in the local economy. With facilities in Angola, Kenya, Malawi, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe, the company say their skilled assembly teams take pride in their work and ensure that each bike is built to endure the adverse conditions it will face.

Buffalo Bicycles are compatible with locally available spare parts. They also train Field Mechanics to service bikes. With proper care and maintenance, these durable bikes should last years.
