Polish company BIOTREM had the idea of using wheat bran, a byproduct of milling wheat into flour, to produce ecologically friendly disposable tableware. With a clean production process involving no chemicals, no artificial components, and no waste generated during production, the tableware is 100% compostable within 30 days in a natural environment.

Ecology

Biotrem’s disposable products, made from wheat bran, are an excellent alternative to any disposable tableware, i.e. made from paper or plastic, whose production is burdensome for the environment. Biotrem say their production process does not require significant amounts of water, or mineral resources, or chemical compounds.

Properties

Biotrem’s disposable wheat bran tableware is suitable for serving hot and cold dishes, and they can be used in ovens and microwave ovens.

The products are robust and stable – you can comfortably and safely use them at home, on a picnic, in the bar or even in the restaurant.

Since the plates, bowls, and trays are made from 100% clean edible wheat bran, you can even bite them safely.

Production

Biotrem’s current production line’s performance is estimated at approximately 15 million pieces of biodegradable disposable plates, bowls or trays per year. Their modern production plant in Zambrow – located in an ecologically clean, traditionally agricultural region of Poland – has permanent access to high quality raw material.

The company say standardisation and reproducibility of the production process guarantees an easy and rapid reaction to the growing market demand. The family have been involved in millling for over 100 years.
