Two of Hollywood’s biggest box office stars, Will Smith and Leonardo DiCaprio, are working together for Amazon wildfire relief. Will and Jaden Smith’s company JUST Water is working with eco-friendly footwear manufacturer Allbirds to create sneakers from natural materials. All proceeds from the sale of the sneakers will be donated to Leonardo DiCaprio’s Amazon Forest Fund, Earth Alliance.

“There is only one Mother Earth and it’s on us to protect her,” – Will Smith

Two of the movie industry’s most marketable actors, Leonardo DiCaprio and Will Smith, are on a mission to save the Amazon… with sneakers!

Smith’s sustainable water company JUST Water — which he runs with son Jaden — teamed up with environmentally-friendly footwear brand Allbirds.

Together, JUST Water and Allbirds designed and released two new limited-edition eco-sneakers, Tree Runners and Tree Toppers. All proceeds from the sale of the shoes will be donated to DiCaprio’s Amazon Forest Fund, Earth Alliance.

DiCaprio is also an Allbirds investor.

DiCaprio’s environmental nonprofit Earth Alliance — which he started alongside Laurene Powell Jobs and Brian Sheth — recently set up the emergency Amazon Forest Fund in response to the news of devasting fires raging across the rainforest.

The Amazon rainforest supplies 6% of the planet’s oxygen and is home to more than one million Indigenous people and half the world’s estimated 10 million species of animals, plants, and insects.

“There is only one Mother Earth and it’s on us to protect her,” Smith said in a statement about the collaboration. “The Brazillian Amazon, our largest carbon sink, has now been burning for a month.”

“We source Just sugarcane caps from Brazil, so this hits especially close to home,”he continued. “Collaborating with businesses who are creating innovative sustainable solutions are the key to our future, and it’s important that we support those brands who give back more than they take.

Maybe Allbirds were going out on a limb when they thought to make shoes out of trees. But thanks to magical eucalyptus tree fiber, their Tree material is breathable and silky-smooth, complete with a cooling effect to keep things breezy. It’s naturally-derived and renewable, too, meaning it’s much friendlier to the environment than traditional shoe stuff.

The shoes’ uppers are made from responsibly grown and sustainably harvested eucalyptus pulp. This has a silky-smooth feel and pleasing cooling effect. The tree proprietary mesh knit textile delivers breathability and comfort — AND —100% of the material in the laces is post-consumer recycled polyester. One old plastic bottle becomes one pair of durable, sleek shoelaces, designed with inspiration from nautical rope.
