Singer-songwriter, actor and activist Jaden Smith (21) has donated a second mobile water filtration system to Flint, and has been using food trucks to provide homeless with free vegan meals in LA’s skid row.

Jayden Smith’s philanthropic endeavours continue with second water filtration system for Flint

Rapper, singer, songwriter, actor and activist Jaden Smith is donating a second Water Box mobile filtration system to the people of Flint, Michigan, he announced during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that aired Friday 7 June. Smith, 21, surprised the talk show host by making the donation in her name. Smith’s first portable filtration system, placed at Flint’s First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church back in March, can filter 10 gallons of water in one minute. The young philanthropist also runs a pop-up food truck in Los Angeles to give "people what they deserve" by offering the homeless free vegan meals.

JUST Water uses nonplastic containers that create less waste. Revenue from JUST has helped pay for the deployment of a mobile water-filtration system in Flint, Michigan. The filters, which started rolling out earlier this year, could help provide clean drinking water to a community that is still dealing with contamination.

“Bottles of water aren’t the most efficient thing…” ~ Jayden Smith

Smith’s first portable filtration system, placed at Flint’s First Trinity Missionary Baptist Church back in March, can filter 10 gallons of water in one minute. Residents can fill up at the church on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.

“We’ve kind of been tracking the progress of what’s been happening in Flint since the beginning and supplying Flint with clean water,” Smith told Ellen DeGeneris on her talk show last month. “Bottles of water aren’t the most efficient thing all the time so we created this water filtration system and you can fill up bigger containers of water. People can come with five or 10 gallon drums and fill up for free in 60 seconds at Trinity First Baptist Church.”

First Trinity has been a hub for residents to access safe drinking water since the water crisis began in 2014.

Smith celebrated his 21st by sending a food truck to Skid Row to serve free meals to the homeless

Earlier this month Jaden Smith dropped an album, turned 21 years old, and celebrated by sending a food truck down to Skid Row to serve healthy hot meals to people in need.

Smith, a high-profile vegan, sent a large food truck he calls the I Love You Restaurant into downtown Los Angeles to distribute free vegan meals to the homeless.

“The I Love You Restaurant is a movement that is all about giving people what they deserve: Healthy, vegan food, for free,” Smith wrote in an Instagram post from the scene. “Today we launched our first one-day food truck pop-up in Downtown L.A. Keep a look out, because this is the first of many.”

It’s not the first time Smith has put his name on a project intended to make the world better, either. He’s a founder of JUST Water, an eco-friendly, sustainably sourced water brand that uses nonplastic containers that create less waste. Revenue from JUST helped pay for the deployment of the mobile water filtration system in Flint.
