17 year old Mike wanted to be able to put on his own shoes when he’s at college, here’s how Nike responded
‘If you have a body, you’re an athlete’
Michael suffers from cerebral palsy. When he was 17, he knew he wanted to go to college. He also knew that he wanted to be able to live as normal a life as possible – and that meant not having to rely on his parents to help him put on his shoes every morning.
So he wrote this letter to Nike.
They responded with a shoe that isn’t designed to help athletes ‘run faster, jump higher, or perform better’, but simply to improve quality of life.
When Nike say ‘if you have a body, you’re an athlete’, "that means everybody", says Mark Parker from Nike. Mike’s story proves it.
Let brands know you need their help
Mike's open letter to Nike incentivised Nike to create a meaningful product. If you want a brand to do the same as Nike did, take initiative.
